5 Exercises To Do While You Are Streaming Shows and Practicing Social Distancing
Just Because You Should Stay Home Doesn't Mean You Can't Stay Fit. Here are 5 Easy Exercises to Do While You are Practicing Social Distancing.
For most of us, a new normal is setting in in terms of what we can and can't do while we position ourselves to quell the spread of the Coronavirus.
Certainly, we are all going to be spending more time at home and less at the gym, on the trail, or wherever we get our usual exercise while we work to "flatten the curve" and slow the spread of this virus.
But even though we might be staying put, we must stay active, for the overall wellness of our mind, body, and spirit. To help you out, Team Sterett put together a quick list of 5 easy exercises you can do while you are at home. If you do some of these every day, it will go a long way to helping you stay physically and mentally fit.
Crunches
Crunches are like a "half-situp" that you can do easily in the comfort of your home. Crunches will give you results without putting too much strain upon your back.
Do at least a few of these a day, and you should see a difference in the strength of your core. Crunches are an exercise that most people can do safely, regardless of fitness level.
And as a bonus, crunches are an easy exercise to do on the floor while you are binge-watching your favorite show or rocking out to your favorite tunes.
Push-Ups
Pushups are a good intermediate/advanced exercise that will work the chest and arms. And they are the kind of activity that you can do anywhere. We aren't going to say that certain members of Team Sterett have a habit of knocking out a few pushups between surgeries, but then again, we aren't going to say they don't!
The bottom line is, pushups can get the blood flowing while providing an effective upper body workout. Now that you know, we can't wait to see how buff you look in a couple of months.
Jumping Jacks
Not just for warming up before gym class, jumping jacks can be a fantastic exercise to get the heart pumping— and again, you can execute these in a fairly tight space. Like, in your living room, for instance.
Why not bang out 100 jumping jacks while watching the new season of "Westworld"?
Keeping fit with this exercise (or by just running in place) can keep your mind crisp while you try to keep up with bizarre plot twists and surprising character developments.
Squats
We really love squats, for three reasons.
You can get a fantastic lower body workout with no weights needed.
You can control the bend of your legs to put less strain upon the knees if you want, and adjust the intensity to get a little cardio in at the same time.
You can add weights to give it a little extra in the resistance department.
Squat on, and you will be dunking like a pro by the time the NBA season resumes.
Stationary Bike Or Treadmill
Some of us have, shall we say, neglected stationary equipment that is gathering dust. We get it. Often it's more fun to run outside, take a hike, or get your exercise on the slopes with some leg-burning pow turns. (RIP, 2019-2020 ski season).
But hey, since you are going to be home quite a bit more in the next couple of months, why not drag the stationary bike up from the basement and get after it! And go ahead, position it near the tv. We won't tell anyone your plan to binge-watch the Marvel Universe on Disney+, just as long as you plan on getting exercise while you are doing it.
Times Are Stressful, But We are In It Together
Good luck during these stressful times! Please listen to the experts and take care to be cognizant of your health, and the health of others. And do what you can to stay active, even if you have to stay in to do it.
